The three trees in Market Street go some way to re-establish the avenue, which existed in the early part of the 20th century. They are Prunus Sunset Boulevard (Cherry) chosen for their open network of branches that allows light through. The other six trees, which are at the bottom of Market Street, are the slightly bolder Pyrus Calleryana ‘Chanticleer’.
Each tree is protected by a specially designed steel tree guard.
A row of hornbeams is planted behind the wall of the Market Street car park opposite the council offices. They provide a ‘green wall’ in the centre of town, which sets off the shelter and stonewall.
